Hey at that place guys, i'm trying to setup a simple automated wheat farm using a villager next to my house. But he doesn't appear to be interested in farming at all, aye he'south a farmer and i accept a composter and bed correct next to him. But he just isn't doing anything any ideas? (yep, i realize he's asleep in the motion-picture show.)

Put another villager in with him, since in 1.14(.4?) villagers no longer stop throwing food at each other due to not needing whatsoever (or something to this result, it'southward in the version notes somewhere).

I know it's non supposed to work this manner, merely I've establish that if there'due south a solid cake directly higher up the composter or other workstation block, villagers have a difficult time staying linked to it or using it to restock trades or tick that off their daily to-do list. Try moving the block above it up one block, or replacing it with glass or something transparent.
And it looks like SOMEONE has been harvesting crops, equally there are some crops in different age stages. Are yous sure he's not harvesting? if he really wasn't, eventually the crops should all be fully-grown.
Finally, the bed doesn't demand to be that close. Since farmers seem to only harvest crops within four blocks (same as irrigation range) from the composter, motility the bed only outside that range and it will still be close enough for him to reach it, only it won't have up two square meters of crop space.

And you could trap the other villager on some hoppers to collect the staff of life (the farmer will make bread earlier throwing information technology to the other villager).
Though y'all might be better off with a hopper minecart nether the field since the farmer's inventory is likely to fill up with seeds.
Unless you are playing in peaceful you should put a torch on that block on the composter to stop zombie spawns, also those three blocks side by side to the firm unless they are bottom slabs.
And whatever zombies that make it to those steps on the left could become over the contend that fashion.

Just testing.

If his inventory is filled with nerveless wheat, wheat seeds, and crafted staff of life, he won't be interested in picking any more crops. How are y'all expecting to get the nutrient that he farms? In that location are two bones methods of wheat farming you could be using, but it's non articulate if either i is in functioning there.
Choice one is to have the farmer throw nutrient at some other villager to share with him, simply intercept it with hoppers, minecarts-with-hoppers, or flowing water. Flowing water doesn't work very well these days after the last couple of updates, but the other ii piece of work. The usual method nowadays is to have ane or ii villagers, either loose or trapped in minecarts, in a small expanse just off the field of crops. Between the farmer and the other villager(southward) is a row of minecarts-with-hoppers on runway, which in plough are on height of a row of hoppers pointing into a breast or other drove/sorting/storage system. Above the minecarts is a row of trapdoors to make certain the (adult) villagers don't cross the tracks, but allow the farmer to endeavor (and fail) to throw nutrient to the other trapped villagers. When he does, the hoppers or minecarts-with-hoppers grab the food items before the other villagers can choice them upwards, and shunt them into your sorting/storage system. I'd also recommend putting hoppers with carpet above them as the flooring atop which the other villagers stand, to catch anything that lands at their feet. For wheat, this will only really collect bread, but it works very well for carrots and potatoes.
Option two doesn't require additional villagers, but is a fiddling more resource-intensive and produces a bit more lag. This it to build a layer of back-and-forth minecart track with frequent powered aureate rails to go along a minecart-with-hopper moving directly beneath the cropland. Brand sure the minecart-with-hopper passes nether every single block of cropland and that it keeps moving. At one end of the rails, a powered rail pointing into a block makes information technology plow around and get back forth the rails, while at the other stop, an automated unloader unloads the cart into your sorting/storage system of chests and hoppers. Now you need to put a farming-capable villager onto the tilled and irrigated (but unplanted) cropland and allow him found crops until he'due south out of seeds or plantable crops, ripping upwards each seed or ingather equally soon as he plants it and collecting it yourself. When you lot're pretty sure his inventory is completely empty of plantable items, throw him beginning 4 total stacks of wheat seeds so 4 full stacks of beetroot seeds. A contempo ane.14 update prevents farmers from having more than 4 slots in their inventory full of the same item, but you don't want him to have any empty slots to option up the bodily wheat items with. If yous toss him wheat seeds first, he'll plant wheat, and if yous toss him the beetroot seeds beginning, this method will work for beetroots besides. It won't piece of work for carrots or potatoes. Once you're sure his inventory is full of inedible but plantable seeds (toss him another stack of each and run across if he picks them up), establish wheat (or beetroot if you tossed him those kickoff) seeds on every cropland cake in his field. When the crops mature and he picks them, he won't be able to selection upward the wheat particular and information technology will stay on the ground until the minecart-with-hopper passes beneath that block and collects it. When he replants with wheat seeds, he becomes able to pick up replacement seeds from future harvested crops, but all wheat items and any surplus wheat seeds volition stay on the ground until collected by the minecart-with-hopper.
I hope this helps.
